What is this medication used for Percorten-V is a mineralocorticoid used in dogs for the treatment of Addison's disease.
Availability Percorten-V is a prescription medication available as a 4 ml multi-dose vial containing 25 mg/ml.
How this medicine should be used The usual starting dose in dogs is 1 mg /pound of body weight given by IM (intramuscular) injection every 25 days. The dose is adjusted based on blood test measurements and treatment is required for the life of the pet.
What are the side effects The major side effect is irritation at the site of injection. Other symptoms that may occur such as increased thirst or urination may be due to overdose.
What special precautions are there Do not give this injection IV (intravenously). Do not use in animals with congestive heart failure,edema or kidney disease. Do not use in pregnant or nursing animals.
In the event of an overdose Contact your veterinarian or veterinary emergency room. Symptoms of overdose may include increased thirst and urination,high blood pressure and fluid retention. Use with caution when giving with diuretics such as furosemide,Insulin,and digitalis (digoxin). Always tell your veterinarian and pharmacist what other medications your pet is taking. In case of human consumption contact a poison control center immediately.
How should I store this medication Store this medication at room temperature preferably between 59°-86°F. Keep out of the reach of children. |
